Chemistry IT Support is the main resource for hardware and software support of desktop and laptop computers for faculty, staff, and students as well as teaching and research laboratories in the department. The IT staff also assists in resolving problems with printing, networking, interfacing, mobile devices, and server access.

  • Hardware and software installation, maintenance, and upgrading on departmental Windows, Macintosh, and Linux desktop computer systems (CLAS Linux Team)
  • Design and installation of related computer technology in instructional labs
  • Research, identification, evaluation, and implementation of hardware and software for networking and interfacing computers to experiments in instructional labs and research facilities
  • Enhancement of departmental computer-related facilities and capabilities including streamlining and improving usage of computational resources

Labs and software maintained

The Undergraduate Computer Lab (CB W241) consists of 22 Dell Optiplex 7070 with Intel Core i7-9700 processors running at 3.00GHz with 16 GB of RAM running the Windows 10 Education (64-bit) operating system. These computers and software titles are available to any student actively taking courses in the Department of Chemistry.

Software available

The Advanced Computer Lab (CB W238) is available to any undergraduate Chemistry major, Chemistry graduate student, and those students enrolled in upper-level Chemistry courses. The lab consists of 22 Dell Optiplex 7070 with Intel Core i7-9700 processors running at 3.00GHz with 16 GB of RAM running the Windows 10 Education (64-bit) operating system.

The Interactive Learning Space (CB W244) consists of two computers connected to large displays in the center of the room and one podium computer. The lab is available to any undergraduate Chemistry major, Chemistry graduate student, and those students enrolled in upper-level chemistry courses.

The Majors Computer Lab (CB E425) has eight desktop computers for use by physical/analytical measurements students during regular lab hours. Access is restricted and the door is locked. Request access during non-lab hours with chemistry lab managers.
