Financial Aid
The Department offers teaching assistantships, research assistantships
or fellowships, or a combination of these, to all qualified graduate
students for their full tenure in the program.
Teaching opportunities for first-year students include classroom
or laboratory instruction and usually require approximately 20 hours
per week. The current annual stipend is approximately $20,338
after payment of tuition and fees. The stipend can be augmented
for outstanding applicants and full tuition fellowships, totaling up
to an additional $4,000, are available. Presidential Graduate
Fellowships are four year awards given by the University
to exceptional candidates. First-year graduate students receive a minimum annual stipend of $21,000 plus
full tuition, fees, and a health insurance allowance, and $25,000 in the final
year of the award. Scholarships are automatically increased to cover increases in tuition and fees.
Details of the source of financial support are provided in the letter of admission.
