Facilities:

The majority of the Chemistry Department research laboratories are located in the Chemistry Building which is continuing to undergo renovation to improve and expand laboratory facilities. In addition, several members of the faculty are located in the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratory(IATL) located directly across the street from the Chemistry Building. Some examples of the modern equipment located in various research laboratories include pulsed laser sources(excimer, CO2 and Nd:YAG, tunable dye lasers), time-of-flight mass spectrometers, ultra-high vacuum chambers with Auger, low energy electron diffraction and FTIR spectroscopic capabilities, an EPR spectrometer and a range of other equipment. Other facilities include a mass spectrometer laboratory, a high field NMR laboratory and an X-ray diffraction facility. Recent acquisitions include a Micromass Autospec high resolution mass spectrometer and a CCD X-ray diffractomer. The Chemistry Department also has glass, machine and electronics shops.
