IT Support Services

The Chemistry Computer Services shop consists of Jeffrey Miller, Systems Administrator, and David Sansbury - IT Support Specialist.They are the main resource for hardware and software support of desktop computers in teaching and research laboratories in the Department. Both assist in resolving problems with networking, interfacing and server access and acts liaisons with the University's Information Technology Services (ITS). Services provided:

  • Hardware and software installation, maintenance, and upgrading on departmental Macintosh and PC Platforms.
  • Management and security of departmental lab resources and network applications.
  • Design, installation, troubleshooting, security, documentation, and administration of departmental AIX, IRIX and Linux workstations, servers, and related peripherals.
  • Design and installation of computer technology in instructional labs.
  • Research, identification, evaluation, and implementation of hardware and software for networking and interfacing computers to experiments in instructional labs and research facilities.
  • Enhancement of departmental computer related facilities and capabilities including streamlining and improving usage of computational resources
  • Centralized security management for computer resources in the department
  • File and Print, Web, and administrative services
