Graduate Student Admissions
Students with an interest in environmental or atmospheric chemistry are encouraged to initiate an
application for graduate study in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa. Competitive
stipends are available to all qualified students through a combination of teaching and research
assistantships. In addition, the normal stipend can be augmented by scholarships and fellowships, from
the Department or the University, for exceptional candidates. The Department of Chemistry offers an
excellent learning environment for students to fulfill their career aspirations. Graduate students from
other departments, such as Chemical and Biochemical Engineering or Physics, may also do their dissertation
work with Chemistry faculty in the area of environmental chemistry. Applications to graduate study for
such students should be done through the home department.
