Graduate Students Recognized at ASBMB Meeting

Three Chemistry graduate students were recently recognized for their accomplishments at the American Society Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Annual Meeting, held in Boston, MA, March 28-April 1, 2015.

Qi Guo (pictured), a graduate student in the Kohen and Cheatum research groups, received the ASBMB Thematic Best Poster Award for "New Directions in Enzymology", for the poster "Characterization of Catalytically Relevant Fast Dynamics at the Active Site of Formate Dehydrogenase", on which she was the first author; co-authors include Phil Pagano (graduate student, Kohen Group), Hepeng Ye (undergraduate researcher, Kohen Group), Dr. Chris Cheatum, and Dr. Amnon Kohen, all of the UI Department of Chemistry.

Zahidul Islam and Ananda K. Ghosh, also graduate students in the Kohen group, both received Graduate Travel Awards from the ASBMB for their attendance at this conference.
